Sunday in the park to learn about what's happening with the park located in the Fair West neighborhood as described here.
Outline of details
- City and contracted architect discussed the park plans.
- City rep stated that plans are premilinary. No start date of work nor estimate of start could be offered.
- Multiple phases are planned. See the key on the poster images below.
- Phase 1 is about adding shade over the playgrounds and replacing the kiosk (The location in the poster seems wrong, no?)
- The shade structure design is not set. It was mentioned that it's likely to be similar to a shade cloth but it was also mentioned that it may be more of a solid pavilion depending on money available. Basically, the city and arch aren't close enough to actually implementing this project such that these detailed questions would have been solved.
- Phase 2 will focus on replacing and upgrading existing infrastructure and landscaping. This will require additional funding
- Read the poster key for details
- There were additional questions from the audience not limited to
- Can solar panels be used as part of the shade structure to help secure funding?
- The city did not say no, but in my not-so-humble-opinion and without intending disrespect: No.
- What is being done for the broken sidewalk on the west side of the park? The city will look into it. Nothing definite.
- Can alternatives to concrete sidewalks be used? The city and arch don't know
- As an able bodied person with some free time, can't I work with volunteering neighbors to create a better path and then tell the city we're done and they should come see it and either approve it or tell us how to make it compliant? Enquiring minds want to know. If you like this idea too, contact me.
